Rare Swiss 60s garage beat sampler 'Beat Bomb' from the Swiss sixties garage beat and punk era on vinyl records
The 3 cover scans you
see here show the only 3
vinyl 45's they ever
released. They had a
picture sleeve which was
actually just an inlay card
in a plastic sleeve.

--> 60s rock and beat singles

The Rackets were a UK band active in Germany and headed by Jimmy Duncombe. In 1966 they took up residence in Zurich, Switzerland, released a number of 45 rpm singles there and played in local clubs. We list them under international 60s rock and beat because their line-up was all-British.

KEIN Tack Tack. KEINE Hänger. KEINE Rillenspringer!

SAUTERELLES: "LES SAUTERELLES":

Original 1966 Swiss garage milestone. Cover autographed by all 4 musicians (original 1966 autographs)

The SLAVES were a truly
international band and
Europe's most awesome
garage band, with a
sound that would make
the Pretty Things jealous.
They influenced the
Swiss band scene greatly
for years to come.

THE SLAVES - Although
often listed under Swiss
garage bands they were an
expat band from
Vienna/Austria. However,
they were deeply
entrenched in the local
band scene. Two Swiss
musicians played with the
SLAVES for a while: Jelly
Pastorini (of later SHIVER
fame) and Peter Rietmann
(of DYNAMITES and
SAUTERELLES fame) on
bass. The core band
members, however, were
from Austria (see line-up list
below). But the band lived,
played, recorded and
released their records in
Zurich / Switzerland - at
least until they were forced
to leave Zurich due to the
use of "forbidden
substances". At that time
they withdrew to Austria
and their careeer was just
about through...

THE BLUE SOUNDS - This band
starring Mike Whitlock often
played Zurich clubs and coffee
bars such as the PONY in 1966.
Mike Whitlock lived in Switzerland
during 1965/66 and founded the
BLUE SOUNDS in Basel. This
photo was taken at the HOTEL
HIRSCHEN, a famous concert
place in the heart of Zurich's old
town (the singer from THE BIG
WHEEL plays bass on this shot.)

Here, THE BLUE
SOUNDS pose by
the Limmat River
embankment in
Zurich. The line-up
includes Peter
Rietmann, who left
THE DYNAMITES to
join the BLUE
SOUNDS as bass
player.

Mike Whitlock from the BLUE SOUNDS told us:
"We never got round to making a record
before we split up. Tapes were made but sadly
lost. When I left in 1966 I did get a phone call and
asked if I wanted to go back and join THE
SLAVES but I declined.

The Layola label featured
bands such as the girlie
favorites THE SEVENS.
Recording quality
unfortunately was
sometimes poor.

The SAUTERELLES
released a lot of 45rpm
singles and 2 LPs. The
quality of the material
differs greatly. On the
whole, the group was
greatly over-rated and
hyped by the music-
money-establishment.

DYNAMITES, the
SAUTERELLES and the
COUNTS.

All of the SLAVES'
records (three 45rpm
singles only) were
recorded and released
exclusively on the Philips
label in Switzerland - so
this is where you would
look for them. But expect
to pay sky-high prices
because these vinyls are
practically impossible to
find. One reason is that
Philips released all three
of them at once which
was pretty stupid and
certainly did not promote
sales.

In the eighties, a few of
their tracks were included
on unlicensed 60s garage
samplers.

Above: On Feb. 1 and 2,
1966, the SLAVES and the
SEVENS co-starred at the
famed TRISCHLI, a dance
club in St. Gallen. The ad
above is a scan of the
original newspaper
clipping.
